Dr. Dimmitt was born in Quincy, Illinois, across the Mississippi River from his parent's hometown of Canton, Missouri. He was Valedictorian of his high school class, and graduated from Culver-Stockton College. After making the Dean's List every year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, Dr. Dimmitt received his DDS degree, and was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology's "Annual Student Award" at graduation. He was accepted directly into U.M.K.C.'s Graduate Periodontics Program where he earned his Certificate in Graduate Periodontics, and went on to enjoy 20 years of private practice limited to Periodontics and Oral Implants in Springfield, Missouri. During this time, Dr. Dimmitt was involved in many community service activities, such as serving on the Mayor’s Select Committee and on the Board of Springfield Community Hospital. He was also honored as the President of the Missouri Society of Periodontists, as well as serving as State Chairman on insurance affairs for the American Academy of Periodontology.
Dr. Dimmitt completed the Misch International Implant Institute's Surgical Residency in Dearborn, Michigan in 1991, their Prosthetic Training Program in 1994, and was awarded Fellowship status at the Institute. He joined the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston Dental Branch as Clinical Director of Graduate Periodontics in 1996, and was appointed by the Dean as Director of the University’s Implant Institute. Because of Dr. Dimmitt's extensive background in IV conscious sedation, instruction of post-doctoral Periodontics Residents in those techniques was also one of his areas of responsibility. During this time in Houston he also served as a state advisor on the Peer Review Committee.
In 1997, Dr. Dimmitt was recruited by the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Health as the Director of Dental Services from January 1998 through December 2000. He was appointed to their National Licensure Board, and named Chairman of their National Implant Credentials Committee. After leaving the Mideast, Dr. Dimmitt joined Dr. Mark Setter's practice in Port Huron, Michigan, and the Misch International Implant Institute's Surgical Faculty in 2002. While in Port Huron Dr. Dimmitt was President of the Thumb District Dental Society.
Dr. Dimmitt holds a Mastership from the Misch International Implant Institute, and is a Diplomate of the Academy of Osseointegration and the International Congress of Implantologists. He remains on the Surgical Faculty of the Misch Institute, and at the Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. Dr. Dimmitt's association with the Misch Institute also provided him the unexpected pleasure of close friendship with Dr. Caldwell, and laid the groundwork for joining the Caldwell dental practice in July of 2009.
Dr. Dimmitt and his wife, Beverly, have travelled extensively, lived abroad, and enjoy cultural diversity and all it has to offer. They also enjoy doing things together like golfing, swimming, and riding bikes in the beautiful El Paso sunshine.
